Is facial oil good for your skin?

Our bodies produce oil naturally, but as we age the production significantly decreases.

Our skin actually needs oil to maintain a healthy balance or it will become dry leading to breakouts, fine lines, and yes the “W” word — wrinkles!

Therefore, using face oils helps to keep our skin moisturized and balance natural oil production.

According to Forbes Magazine,

Face oils are totally worth the hype. And the benefits of adding face oils to your daily beauty regimen is well worth the effort.

Not convinced face oils are for your skin type? You’re probably using the wrong oil! Face oils work for EVERY SKIN TYPE, yes oily skin, aging skin, dry skin, even blemish prone skin

Face Oils are jam-packed with antioxidants, which fight the signs of aging AND blemishes.

How you ask?

  • Antioxidants neutralize aging free radicals
  • Antioxidants help stimulate collagen production
  • Antioxidants prevent sebum oxidation

They really lead the army when it comes to the fight against acne and blemishes

Face oils work for EVERY SKIN TYPE, yes oily skin, aging skin, dry skin, even blemish prone skin.

Dr. Debra Jaliman, author of Skin Rules and NYC-based cosmetic dermatologist warns,

“You must consider your skin type when purchasing a facial oil.”

Don’t let that stop you from using face oils.

They key is to find the best face oil for your unique skin!

Feel free to jump ahead to your skin type below and find just what you need! For the rest of you beauty gurus, let’s start with the best face oil for wrinkles.

Do face oils belong in your skincare routine? Our answer: YES! Here's why

What’s the best face oil for anti-aging?

You’ve gotta bring out THE All Stars when it comes to finding the best face oil for anti aging. We’re talking about a mega-dose of antioxidants, fatty acids, and vitamins galore. Psst…our Beauty Blend No.3 has it all!

Best Face Oils for Wrinkles and Anti-Aging:

Pomegranate Seed Oil

Used throughout history for its many benefits, pomegranate oil is produced from the seeds, highly prized for one of the only sources of punicic acid and rare Omega-5 essential fatty acids.

Pomegranate seeds also contain an all-star line up of vitamins including phosphorus, potassium, vitamin K, C, B6, and folate.

When applied as a face oil pomegranate enhances skin elasticity, balances the skin’s pH level, protects against free radicals, and improves skin tone for a healthy radiant glow.

What makes pomegranate seed oil a great face oil for anti aging?

It stimulates keratinocytes found in the outer layer of skin which aids in the reversal of skin damage, reviving and restoring skin to reveal a more youthful appearance. Incredible right?

Argan Oil

Often referred to as “liquid gold”, argan oil is extracted from the kernels of the argan tree native to Morocco. It’s extremely high in antioxidants, fatty acids, and vitamins A and E. Considered by experts to be one of the top five natural skin care ingredients, argan oil is ideal for a natural boost to the skin.

Argan oil restores elasticity leaving skin feeling softer and plumper while it reduces the visibility of wrinkles. Its non-greasy, non-irritating, moisturizing properties make it easy to apply all over the body, not just as a face oil for wrinkles.

Rosehip Seed Oil

Unlike rose essential oil extracted from rose petals, rosehip seed oil is pressed from the fruit and seeds of rosa canina rose bush common to Chile. Rosehip seed oil has the motherload of skin-nourishing vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids for tissue and cell regeneration in the skin.

According to a Clinical Interventions in Aging study rosehip powder showed a significant reduction in the appearance of fine lines around the eyes after just eight weeks of treatment.

It’s no wonder rosehip seed oil has been prized since ancient times for the reduction of scars and fine lines.

Science also tells us that rosehip seed oil inhibits the creation of MMP-1 an enzyme that breaks down collagen in the body (source). Collagen is THE building block of skin, essential for firmness and elasticity – which our body makes less of as we age.

As one of the best face oils for anti aging, rosehip seed oil is a dry, non-greasy oil and wonderful moisturizer for all skin types.

How about oily skin — does applying face oils make your skin oily?

Contrary to what you might think, face oils help regulate the skin’s own oil production.

Which means applying oil to the skin can actually “trick” it into producing less sebum (its own oil).

Not to mention that very often, the skin will produce more sebum to counteract harsh, drying skincare products, and face oils help restore balance by deeply nourishing the skin. We recommend this face oil for oily skin.

Do face oils clog your pores?

Again, not all face oils are created equally. But the right face oils will help keep pores clear and blemishes away.

How? When it comes down to it, a zit or blackhead is really nothing more than a sticky mess of oil and dead skin cells.

And since like-dissolves-like (in other words, oil and water don’t mix but water and water do mix as do oil and oil), applying oil to the skin can actually help to break up this sticky mess and clear it from the pore.

Can you use face oil if you have acne?

The best face oils for acne help bring balance to acne-prone skin — This one fascinates me the most!

Studies have found that the sebum of acne-prone individuals tends to be deficient in a certain type of fatty acid called linoleic acid and that topical application of linoleic acid can help reduce breakouts.

And guess what? Certain face oils are loaded with linoleic acid. (You can bet these are the oils used in our Beauty Blend No.2 for oily to blemish prone skin types!)

Top Picked Face Oils For Acne Prone and Oily Skin:

Jojoba Oil

Especially helpful for individuals with oily skin too, jojoba oil mimics the skin’s natural sebum oil. Thus tricking it to produce less oil!

I’ll admit it was my first love on my journey to clear skin. I would look forward to applying at bedtime, knowing that I would wake up to happier, clearer skin.

Jojoba oil, incredibly lightweight in texture, is a breathable face oil and helps to control shine making it one of the best face oils for acne and oily skin.

Pumpkin Seed Oil

Extracted from – no brainer here – the unhusked seeds of the pumpkin. It is especially helpful for keeping skin clear since it’s very high in linoleic acid (see above!).

Vitamins A and C help prevent the sebum oxidation behind many outbreaks while zinc helps calm inflamed skin. Pumpkin seed oil is 100% hands-down my favorite face oil for all skin types — which is why it’s in all 3 of our Beauty Blends!

Grapeseed Oil

Like pumpkin seed oil, grapeseed oil is antioxidant-rich, incredibly high in linoleic acid as well as vitamin E.

Grapeseed oil helps to bring balance back to blemish-prone skin. A natural astringent, grapeseed oil is very light texture and doesn’t clog pores. Instead, it has a mattifying effect on oily skin.

Hazelnut Oil

Pressed from the nuts from of the Hazel tree, hazelnut oil is packed with skin nourishing vitamins, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids to boost collagen production, protect of skin damage, and…

Are you ready for this?

Hazelnut oil contains high amounts of catechins and tannins that help to cleanse and remove bacteria from the skin while minimizing pores.

Yep, you read that last part right — hazelnut oil helps reduce the appearance of pores!

And its astringent properties tone the skin while helping to reduce oiliness.

How can you add a face oil to your skincare routine?

A face oil should be the very last product applied to your skin — after cleansing, toning, and applying any water-based serums or moisturizers.

You may even find you don’t need to apply a moisturizer after using face oils as they provide enough moisture and lock hydration (water) into the skin.

You can even wash your face with oil using The Oil Cleansing Method.
