Let’s take a closer look at the ingredients to see why…

Matcha green tea not only protects skin from aging free radicals, but also prevents breakouts

Matcha is a wonderful ingredient for DIY face mask recipes since it protects skin from aging free radicals and prevents pore-clogging sebum oxidation

This is why we drink matcha: for all those wonderful antioxidants!

Well just as drinking green tea fights aging, disease-promoting free radicals and UV damage from within, applying green tea directly to the skin has the same effect.

Matcha’s also rich in vitamins B2 and E, both of which keep skin healthy and youthful looking — B2 is key for collagen production while vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that supports new skin cell growth.

Matcha also helps fight blemishes and keep skin clear:

  • They prevent the skin’s sebum or natural oils from oxidizing, a process that causes pores to clog and many believe to be a primary root cause of acne (source)
  • Green tea has also specific antibacterial properties that help gently keep acne-causing bacteria under control (source)
  • Studies have found that the antioxidants in green tea help decrease excess oil production (source)

Matcha also contains caffeine, which increases circulation to the upper layers of the skin, giving you an immediate glow. Even more importantly, increased circulation allows for increased oxygen and nutrients the upper layers of the skin, and topically applied caffeine has been shown to reduce inflammation in the skin (source).

Yogurt exfoliates skin with natural lactic acid, keeping pores clear and leaving skin silky smooth

greek yogurt gently exfoliates skin with natural lactic acids which it's the featured ingredient in this exfoliating homemade face mask recipe

Lactic acid gently exfoliates the skin, preventing dead skin cells from clogging pores, leaving skin looking and feeling silky smooth, and stimulating cell turnover and collagen production.

Yes, exfoliation has many benefits!

The best part: yogurt provides these benefits WITHOUT being too harsh or irritating, as can be the case with other exfoliants.

Plus, the probiotics in yogurt can help balance the skin’s own microbiome, repopulating the beneficial bacteria.

Honey hydrates the skin and gently helps manage acne-causing bacteria

As a natural humectant, honey draws and holds water to the skin. Hydrated skin appears plumper and more youthful. Plus, hydrated skin heals more quickly.

Honey is also naturally antibacterial, which is why it’s so beneficial for acne-prone skin — it helps to gently manage acne-causing bacteria without drying the skin and causing irritation.
