When it comes to nuts and seeds, choose organic
Real Food Recipes Uncategorized
Nuts and seeds are great for your health, and some even play a pivotal role in detoxification. However, consuming conventionally grown nuts and seeds may also be providing you with a large dose of pesticides. Because of their high fat and oil content, nuts and seeds are like little sponges for the chemicals used in conventional growing practices. Unfortunately, these chemicals are able to permeate the shells and eventually end up in our bodies (yuck).
When it comes to almonds, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, and walnuts, always choose organic. Walnuts are especially important to purchase organic. Walnuts are practically saturated in pesticides during the traditional growing process due to the high number of pests that like to feast on this tasty and nutritious nut. For this reason, they are often subject to many more chemical treatments than other nuts and seeds.
