6 Simple & Natural Home Cleaning DIYs Made With Just 6 Ingredients
DIY DIY Home Cleaning Green Living Healthy Home
It’s ironic that home cleaning products are often a major source of indoor air pollution.
After all, we buy them with the intention of making our homes healthier, safer places — not chemical dumping grounds!
But many of the chemicals found in conventional cleaning products have health implications ranging from headaches and skin sensitivity to endocrine disruption and increased risk of cancer.
Luckily, safer cleaning options exist — and they’re so unbelievably super simple to make yourself!
When it comes to making your own natural home cleaning products, you need just a few ingredients:
- Baking soda
- Washing soda
- Castile soap (both liquid and bar)
- Bacteria-fighting essential oils like lemon, rosemary, and red thyme
- White vinegar

I have noticed that the dishwasher powder is leaving a weird reside on the dishes once the cycle is complete. Any ideas?
Washing soda is sodium carbonate. I link to some that you can purchase on Amazon in the post. Here it is so you can take a look: http://amzn.to/2dk71cA
what type of washing powder are you recommending? can we make it
Hi there
I’m in NZ and I wondered what you mean by ‘washing powder’? What brand do you use? Thanks! Great information here!
I love your blog. It’s helped get me back onto the natural path. Love that your from Philly. I was wondering if you have a recipe for toilet bowl cleaner. Thanks.
I buy it on Amazon – it’s the one I link to in the post!
What castile soap do you buy, and where do you get it?
I have personally never had any issues when using cold water!
I would say no. I really have no clue what the ingredients in Oxiclean are or if they’re natural (but I’m assuming they’re not). Google isn’t being any help to me on the matter!
Regular washing soda is so cheap and easy to find.
Also, would “oxiclean” powder work as the washing soda?
For the laundry powder, is it ok to use cold water? No residue issues?
I love your blog! I have been using your mouthwash, and just made a batch of your toothpaste. Can’t wait for it to cool so I can try it. The toothpaste turned me on to bentonite clay. I love all the things it can do. In the meantime, I see on the label that it carries a California State warning, I think about trace amounts of lead? I checked another brand I saw online (Redmonds, http://www.amazon.com/Redmond-Clay-Bottle-10-Ounce/dp/B001DJ6J5W?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=ox_sc_act_image_1&smid=AV3OR7OJ7GG7L) and it too has a warning. Should I be concerned? Any information you could provide would be most appreciated. Thank you very much!

Enjoy!
I actually link to the washing soda right in the post – I get it from Amazon.
For fabric softener, I use wool dryer balls (which also reduce dry time and thus energy usage!).
I can’t wait to try these! What is and where can I find washing powder? Also, do you have a recipe for fabric softener?
Yes, I use a scented castile bar soap (lavender and rose are my favorite!) and then add a drop of essential oil to my dryer balls.
Thanks for that tip, Candice!
These are all so great! We also add epsom salt to our laundry powder to help with our hard water situation.
…or can I just use a scented Dr. Bronner’s Castile Bar Soap in the laundry powder?
Can you use essential oil in your laundry powder for use in the washing machine–for clothes to smell good?
These all sound great and will definitely be trying each one! Do you have any recipes for healthy, clean bug spray and sun screen? Using essential oils? Thank you!
